Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron, where they discussed the need to restore safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This conversation emphasized the urgency of addressing the situation in West Asia. Both leaders agreed on the importance of cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.
During a previous call on March 19, Modi and Macron had also highlighted the necessity for de-escalation and a return to dialogue and diplomacy in West Asia. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had met with President Macron during a visit to Paris last month, further strengthening ties between India and France.
In February, Macron visited India to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries. The visit included the inauguration of the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 and participation in the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Recently, PM Modi had a conversation with US President Donald Trump, where they discussed the progress in bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The leaders also addressed the situation in West Asia during their call, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and openness of the Strait of Hormuz for global navigation and security.
