Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call from US President Donald Trump, where they discussed the current situation in West Asia and ways to enhance their bilateral partnership. PM Modi shared on social media about the progress in various sectors of cooperation and their commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The leaders also talked about the importance of maintaining the security and openness of the Strait of Hormuz amidst their conversation on West Asia. India has been advocating for de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy to resolve conflicts in the region, welcoming the ceasefire between the US and Iran in hopes of achieving lasting peace.
India expressed concerns over the suffering caused by the conflict in West Asia, emphasizing the need for unimpeded freedom of navigation and global commerce flow through the Strait of Hormuz. The US Ambassador highlighted India’s central role in America’s long-term global strategy, aiming to elevate their bilateral relationship to a defining strategic partnership of the 21st century.
In an interview, the US Ambassador praised President Trump’s results-oriented diplomacy and emphasized the significance of the friendship between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in strengthening the broader partnership. Defence cooperation stands out as a crucial aspect of the relationship, with ongoing efforts to expand collaboration in defence industrial production, science, technology, and operational coordination.
