Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie met on Sunday to explore fresh prospects in industries, connectivity, technology, and digital infrastructure during PM Modi’s official visit to the archipelagic nation. They reviewed the economic partnership between India and Seychelles, emphasizing opportunities in various sectors such as housing, healthcare, transport, skilling, food security, education, and defense. PM Modi affirmed India’s commitment to collaborating with Seychelles on mutual interests.
The leaders acknowledged the shared responsibility for the security, sustainability, and prosperity of the Indian Ocean. They highlighted the significance of a secure maritime environment alongside economic growth. PM Modi and President Herminie underscored the importance of mutual respect and trust in their partnership, aiming to advance together towards a vision of the Indian Ocean as a realm of opportunities.
During their discussions at the State House, PM Modi and President Herminie delved into various topics. PM Modi’s visit coincided with Seychelles’ 50th independence anniversary and the 50th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The talks centered on enhancing the existing strong partnership between India and Seychelles, reflecting on the historical ties and shared aspirations for the future.
India and Seychelles formalized agreements to bolster bilateral relations across trade, digital technology, and agriculture. Notably, both nations sealed significant deals, including a substantial line of credit agreement worth Rs 1,250 crore between the Export-Import Bank of India and the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade, and Investment of Seychelles. These agreements aim to enhance cooperation and foster mutual growth between the two countries.
