The leaders underscored the significance of reforming global governance structures to align with contemporary geopolitical and economic realities, emphasizing the value of a rules-based international order grounded in international law and sovereign equality. They acknowledged the pressing need for practical and inclusive cooperation to address modern challenges such as climate change, industrial transformation, energy transition, and supply-chain disruptions.
India’s rapid economic growth and substantial renewable energy initiatives were commended, with a focus on aligning climate goals with development needs. The leaders outlined India’s objectives of achieving ‘developed country’ status by 2047 and Net Zero emissions by 2070, emphasizing the country’s role as a responsible advocate for the Global South through collaborations like LeadIT and other global platforms.
Sweden’s leadership in European climate action was recognized, particularly its achievements in reducing emissions and promoting clean energy solutions. The joint efforts of India and Sweden in driving industrial transformation through collaboration were highlighted, with a call for increased action through LeadIT to transition from planning to implementation at a larger scale.
PM Modi and the Swedish PM emphasized the importance of workforce transitions, skills development, and financial mechanisms to facilitate industrial transformation. They called for an expansion and intensification of global cooperation efforts through 2030, inviting more countries to join in advancing low-carbon industrial solutions and clean energy technologies to foster economic growth and social progress on a global scale.
