Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Jakarta on Monday for a two-day visit to Indonesia. He was warmly welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto at the airport, where traditional Indonesian performances were showcased. During his stay, PM Modi is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with the Indonesian President and assess the progress of their partnership.
This visit marks the initial leg of PM Modi’s tour across three nations, with subsequent stops planned in Australia and New Zealand. Highlighting the significance of the trip, PM Modi emphasized the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his previous visit in 2018. He expressed eagerness to strengthen the multifaceted partnership between India and Indonesia.
India and Indonesia have bolstered their defense and security cooperation, with a focus on maritime collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. Both nations have also aligned their developmental visions, fostering strong economic ties. Indonesia stands as India’s second-largest trading partner in the ASEAN region, with bilateral trade reaching US$24.78 billion in 2025-26.
