Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the commissioning ceremony of INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata. Naval officers emphasized the advanced capabilities, indigenous systems, and strategic importance of the newly inducted vessels. Commander Sunil Malpotra, commanding officer of INS Agray, highlighted the ship’s combat capability despite its compact size, equipped with weapons, sensors, and anti-submarine warfare features.
INS Agray is armed with an indigenously developed sonar suite, combat management system, rocket launchers, torpedo tubes, and a decoy system for anti-submarine warfare. Captain Divya Alok of INS Dunagiri noted the vessel’s connection to India’s cultural and mythological heritage, being part of the Giri class named after mountains. Lt Commander Rishabh, Executive Officer of INS Agray, described the challenging yet rewarding journey from construction to commissioning, emphasizing the ship’s role in hunting submarines in shallow waters.
Lt Commander Piyush, Engineering Officer, highlighted the waterjet propulsion system of the vessels, a key technological feature. The commissioning of INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak, and INS Agray signifies a significant advancement in India’s maritime capabilities. These vessels are set to boost the Indian Navy’s operational readiness, anti-submarine warfare capabilities, hydrographic survey functions, and coastal defense preparedness, showcasing the nation’s focus on indigenous defense manufacturing and self-reliance in the naval sector.
