Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up his three-day visit to Australia and departed for New Zealand. He was bid farewell at the airport by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, High Commissioner Philip Green, and other officials. Earlier, PM Modi and Australian PM Anthony Albanese launched the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, emphasizing enhanced bilateral cooperation in sports and infrastructure.
During the event, attended by Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan and Australian sports icons like Steve Waugh and Lisa Sthalekar, the focus was on strengthening the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through sports and cultural exchanges. PM Modi expressed his delight in visiting the Melbourne Cricket Ground with PM Albanese, highlighting the shared passion for sports between India and Australia.
Additionally, PM Modi met with Australia’s Opposition Leader Angus Taylor to discuss the deepening ties between the two countries. He appreciated the strong support for the partnership across Australia. The visit also included bilateral discussions with PM Albanese, meetings with Governor-General Sam Mostyn and Victoria Governor Margaret Gardner AC, participation in various forums and receptions, and interactions with former Australian PM Scott Morrison.
The Australia-India Annual Summit saw PM Modi and Albanese reviewing progress in trade, investment, energy, defense, education, and other areas. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to a free and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Several MoUs were finalized during the Summit, covering defense, maritime security, energy, technology, education, and skilling. Following his engagements in Australia, PM Modi headed to New Zealand for a historic two-day visit, marking the first official trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in four decades. In New Zealand, he is set to engage with business leaders, sports personalities, and the Indian Diaspora.
