Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Keiko Fujimori for her victory in Peru’s presidential election. Modi expressed India’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations and eagerness to collaborate with the new leader across various sectors. He emphasized the significance of the enduring friendship between India and Peru, highlighting the commitment to enhancing cooperation in mutual areas of interest.

Keiko Fujimori, representing the Popular Force party, was declared the winner of the June 7 presidential election for the 2026-2031 term by Roberto Burneo, the president of Peru’s National Jury of Elections. Fujimori secured over 50% of the votes according to the official count by the National Office of Electoral Processes. She is set to assume office on July 28, with Luis Galarreta and Miguel Torres as first and second vice presidents, respectively.

India and Peru maintain friendly diplomatic ties and have expanded collaboration in trade, investment, mining, pharmaceuticals, IT, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. Prime Minister Modi’s message underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Peru for the mutual benefit of both nations, reflecting the broader engagement with Latin American countries.
