Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar for securing India’s first medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 by winning a bronze in the men’s heavyweight event in Glasgow. Jhandu’s best lift of 130.9 earned him the bronze, marking India’s first podium finish at the Games. Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris clinched the gold with 132.8, while England’s Matthew Harding secured silver at 131.0.
