Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the stark difference between his government’s people-centric strategy and the Congress party’s mindset in his response to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha. He emphasized a shift in perspective, citing a statement by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who mentioned that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru saw the country as having 35 crore problems, while she faced 71 crore problems during her tenure. PM Modi questioned the notion of referring to the people of India as problems, asserting that with a population of 140 crore today, the nation holds 140 crore solutions.
This distinct perspective, according to PM Modi, distinguishes his administration from the Congress, focusing on empowerment and opportunities rather than viewing the population as a burden. He strongly defended the dignity of constitutional offices, criticizing the Opposition for what he deemed as disrespectful behavior towards a tribal woman holding the highest constitutional post, likely referring to President Droupadi Murmu. PM Modi accused the Opposition of hypocrisy, alleging that they raise constitutional concerns while undermining institutional respect.
Drawing attention to project execution disparities, PM Modi pointed to the completion of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada river during his tenure, a project initiated before his birth. He criticized the Congress for announcing ambitious schemes without ensuring their fulfillment, leaving unfinished legacies across various sectors. In contrast, PM Modi highlighted his government’s effective implementation in areas such as roads, railways, and irrigation, delivering tangible outcomes to citizens.
Accusing the Congress of neglecting small and marginal farmers in favor of larger players and influential groups, PM Modi expressed solidarity with small farmers. He highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, which has facilitated direct transfers of over four lakh crore rupees to farmers’ bank accounts, providing financial assistance without intermediaries and bolstering rural economies.
