Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the NDA Conclave, highlighted the significant shift in India’s economic growth from the sluggish “Hindu Growth Rate” to accelerated progress under the NDA since 2014. He attributed the past slow pace to Congress’ governance failures and policy shortcomings. Modi emphasized the need to measure India’s progress on global standards and urged for continued momentum in development initiatives.
One of the key achievements of the NDA’s tenure has been breaking free from what Modi termed as the Congress’ “web of failure.” During Congress rule, India faced challenges of helplessness, destitution, and a perceived lack of development potential. Modi criticized Congress for its indecisiveness and policy failures, asserting that the responsibility for the slow growth should have been attributed to the Congress rather than labeling it as the “Hindu Growth Rate.”
Modi also praised Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government for briefly showcasing accelerated development before Congress’ return in 2004. He highlighted the subsequent decade marred by corruption scandals and instability, which changed with the NDA assuming power in 2014. The Prime Minister emphasized the shift towards decisive governance, accelerated growth, and enhanced confidence under the NDA’s leadership.
The transformation in India’s growth trajectory, according to Modi, signifies not just statistical progress but a systemic change towards efficient governance and timely implementation of policies. He underscored the resilience shown by India amid global challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic, where the nation maintained a satisfactory growth rate. Modi linked recent reforms, such as tax exemptions for the middle class and cost reductions for essential goods, to empowering citizens and ensuring a stable future for the country.
