Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude for the warm reception by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as he began his three-day State Visit to Indonesia. This visit marks PM Modi’s first bilateral trip to Jakarta since the countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. He highlighted the upcoming discussions with President Subianto to enhance the strong relationship between India and Indonesia.
PM Modi also shared his anticipation for engaging with the Indian community in Indonesia. He mentioned the significance of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2018 and the positive impact it has had on both nations. The Prime Minister emphasized the cultural ties between India and Indonesia, noting the planned visit to the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reported that President Prabowo Subianto and four ministers welcomed PM Modi upon his arrival at the airport. PM Modi was treated to a cultural performance, and Indonesian Air Force fighter jets escorted his plane upon entering Indonesian airspace. The Prime Minister stated that his visit, from July 6-8, was at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto.
PM Modi underscored the strong historical and people-to-people connections between India and Indonesia. He expressed his commitment to further enhancing the multifaceted partnership during this visit. The Prime Minister highlighted his interaction with the Indian diaspora in Indonesia and the joint visit to the Prambanan Temple complex as symbolic of the close cultural bonds between the two nations.
Indonesia serves as the initial destination of PM Modi’s three-nation tour, followed by visits to Australia and New Zealand later in the week.
