Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Queen Maxima of the Netherlands to talk about how India’s Digital Public Infrastructure-led revolution is improving the accessibility and affordability of financial services. PM Modi expressed his pleasure in meeting Queen Maxima, who serves as the UN Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health and is a prominent global voice for financial inclusion. They highlighted how India’s digital initiatives are not only making financial services more accessible and affordable but also enhancing the quality of life and empowering people on a large scale.
Queen Maxima, in her role as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, visited India and was welcomed by the Ministry of External Affairs. Her visit underscores the joint commitment to promoting financial inclusion and draws on India’s successful use of Digital Public Infrastructure for inclusive growth and sustainable development. During her visit, Queen Maxima engaged with people from various backgrounds to understand their experiences with financial services and the challenges they face regarding financial health.
The discussions included insights from beneficiaries of India’s ‘Jan Dhan’ program, an initiative that offers households affordable access to banking and financial services. These conversations are expected to guide Queen Maxima’s upcoming interactions with leaders from the private and public sectors during her stay. PM Modi had previously met Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander during his visit to the Netherlands, where he presented Maxima with Meenakari and Kundan earrings, representing India’s renowned jewellery-making traditions from Rajasthan.
