In anticipation of Buddha Purnima in May, PM Modi extended his greetings to the nation, emphasizing the enduring relevance of Lord Gautam Buddha’s life message. He underscored Buddha’s teaching that true peace originates from within and achieving mastery over oneself is the ultimate triumph. The Prime Minister noted the pertinence of Buddha’s philosophy in today’s world marked by conflicts and turmoil.
PM Modi shared an example from Chile, South America, where Drubpon Otzer Rinpoche, hailing from Ladakh’s Drepung, is promoting Lord Buddha’s teachings through an organization. This initiative integrates meditation and compassion into people’s lives, with a Stupa in the Cochiguaz Valley offering a serene environment for inner peace. The Prime Minister commended the global outreach of India’s ancient traditions, fostering connections even in remote regions.
Discussing the connection between Buddhist traditions and nature, PM Modi referenced Lord Buddha’s enlightenment under a tree. He highlighted the Karma Monastery in Karnataka, a sprawling forest spanning 100 acres that preserves over 700 indigenous trees. PM Modi emphasized that Buddha’s teachings hold significance not only in the past but also in the present and for the future, emphasizing the importance of peace, compassion, and balance in life.
