In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, PM Modi highlighted Meghalaya’s natural beauty, rich traditions influenced by the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia communities, and its commitment to environmental conservation and women’s empowerment.
He emphasized the significant strides made by Meghalaya in various sectors, expressing admiration for the state’s hospitality and economic resilience post-COVID. PM Modi also recognized the late leader P. A. Sangma’s visionary contributions to the region, marking the 10th anniversary of his passing this year. Chief Minister Sangma, in response, thanked the Prime Minister for his support and guidance in advancing Meghalaya’s development, acknowledging the enduring legacy of P. A. Sangma.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting sports and culture in Meghalaya, announcing that the state would host the National Games next year to enhance sporting infrastructure and nurture young talent. He praised Meghalaya’s progress in housing, agriculture, healthcare, and education, underscoring the state’s positive growth trajectory and sustainable practices. PM Modi also lauded the region’s role in India’s development, describing the Northeast as a vital component of the country’s progress.
