Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his Pongal wishes to the people of Tamil Nadu, highlighting the festival’s significance in Tamil culture. Pongal, a cherished celebration for Tamils worldwide, symbolizes gratitude towards nature, the sun, animals, and farmers, embodying themes of abundance and unity.
In a special message to Tamil Nadu residents, PM Modi greeted them with ‘Vanakkam’ and emphasized the festival’s connection to nature’s cycles and human labor. He described Pongal as deeply rooted in agriculture, honoring hardworking farmers, rural life, and the value of labor.
PM Modi praised Pongal as a vibrant representation of Tamil traditions, underscoring the pride in Tamil being one of the world’s oldest languages. He noted the festival’s global reach, celebrated with enthusiasm not only in Tamil Nadu but also by Tamils worldwide, fostering a sense of togetherness and gratitude.
The Prime Minister will participate in Pongal festivities at Union Minister L. Murugan’s residence in New Delhi. Additionally, he is set to visit Chennai on January 23 to address a public rally, coinciding with the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu, marking his first visit to the state in 2026.
