Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a meeting with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Director-General Qu Dongyu in Rome, presented representative samples of India’s finest grains and healthy millet bars. This gesture aimed to showcase India’s diverse agricultural heritage and traditional food richness. The meeting occurred during PM Modi’s State Visit to Italy, where he was honored with the 2026 Agricola Medal by FAO.
During the exchange, PM Modi gifted curated samples of various indigenous rice varieties from different regions of India. Notable among the gifts was Red Rice from Kerala, known for its unique qualities and nutritional richness. Additionally, Gobindobhog rice from West Bengal and Basmati rice from the Indo-Gangetic plains were presented, each renowned for its distinct characteristics and culinary significance.
Furthermore, PM Modi shared Joha rice from Assam and Kalanamak rice from Uttar Pradesh, both celebrated for their aromatic profiles and nutritional benefits. Alongside these rice varieties, the Prime Minister also presented healthy millet bars, emphasizing India’s focus on nutritious and sustainable food products. These gifts underscored India’s commitment to promoting traditional grains and millets globally for a healthier and climate-resilient food ecosystem.
