Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the ‘Kia Ora Modi’ event in Auckland, praised the sacrifices of Sikh Gurus for humanity and India. He emphasized his government’s initiatives to safeguard the rich Sikh heritage, including bringing back sacred forms of Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan and resolving FCRA-related issues at Sri Harmandir Sahib. PM Modi also mentioned the construction of a ropeway to Sri Hemkunt Sahib and efforts to preserve sacred Jode Sahib at Takht Sri Patna Sahib.
He underscored the importance India places on its heritage, citing the sacred forms of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as an example of India’s commitment to preserving its cultural legacy. PM Modi highlighted the values of service, courage, equality, and compassion propagated by the Sikh Gurus, with Gurudwaras serving as centers of service worldwide. He acknowledged and addressed the challenges faced by devotees visiting Sri Hemkunt Sahib due to its remote location in the Himalayas.
PM Modi also spoke about the annual celebration of ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ to honor the bravery of the Sahibzadas, emphasizing its significance in inspiring the youth. He praised Union Minister Hardeep Puri’s family for their efforts in preserving Sikh heritage, particularly mentioning the preservation of Jode Sahib by Puri’s ancestors for over 300 years. The Prime Minister urged people to visit Patna Sahib to witness the sacred couple of Jode Sahib, emphasizing its historical and spiritual importance.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception at the diaspora event in Auckland, PM Modi thanked the Indian community in New Zealand and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for their participation and support. He highlighted the strong bond between the Indian community in New Zealand and India, calling it a vital pillar of friendship.
