He expressed optimism that the Audio Visual Agreement between the two nations would enhance cultural ties. PM Modi praised the Malaysian interest in Tamil, highlighting its presence in education, media, and cultural aspects in the country.
Earlier, PM Modi commended the vibrant Indian cultural celebrations in Malaysia, including a notable dance performance at the ‘Selamat Datang Modiji’ event attended by a large Indian diaspora and Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim. He underscored the strong bond between the Indian and Malaysian communities, emphasizing shared linguistic similarities and the popularity of Indian entertainment in Malaysia. PM Modi also acknowledged Malaysia’s Indian-origin community for preserving traditions and promoting Indian languages through educational institutions.
Recognizing Tamil as a global cultural asset, PM Modi lauded the contributions of Tamil literature and people to humanity. He mentioned prominent Tamil-origin leaders in India’s government and highlighted the positive impact of the Tamil diaspora in Malaysia across various sectors. PM Modi announced plans to establish a Thiruvalluvar center at the University of Malaya to further strengthen the shared heritage between the two nations.
