Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed their greetings on Bengal New Year’s Day, Poila Boishakh, in both Bengali and English. The messages were shared on their official social media accounts. Modi’s message emphasized cultural and social harmony, wishing for happiness and brotherhood in the coming year. He also highlighted West Bengal’s rich cultural heritage that has influenced India’s civilization.

In contrast, Amit Shah’s message subtly hinted at political aspirations ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal. He expressed wishes for the state to embark on a new path of development, good governance, and welfare in the new year. Shah praised West Bengal’s cultural and literary excellence, urging for a prosperous future for its people.

Both leaders refrained from direct or indirect political attacks in their messages, unlike Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who indirectly referenced the BJP and central leaders in her greetings. Banerjee emphasized Bengal’s cultural harmony and criticized external influences attempting to disrupt the state’s unity. She called for a democratic response to those challenging the state’s integrity.
