Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 1st World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad through video conferencing. He mentioned that with the growth of yoga as a sport, new career opportunities will arise. PM Modi emphasized the significance of the championship, stating that it marks a new phase for yoga traditions.
Highlighting the impact of sports, the Prime Minister noted that as Yogasana Sport expands, it will create new possibilities and career paths. He congratulated the participants, stating that being part of the championship makes them all champions. PM Modi encouraged athletes to promote the Ministry of Ayush’s ‘Yoga Three Sixty Five’ campaign globally.
Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, described the championship as a historic moment for India and the global yoga community. He expressed India’s ambition for Yogasana to be included in future international sporting events like the Commonwealth Games and Olympics. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Chief Minister of Gujarat and the President of World Yogasana.
The World Yogasana Championship has attracted elite athletes and delegations from over 60 countries, aiming to establish Yogasana as a recognized global sport.
