Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics associated with Bhagwan Buddha at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in Delhi. PM Modi emphasized that the wisdom of Lord Buddha transcends time and is universal for all humanity. The Piprahwa relics, discovered in 1898, hold significant archaeological importance in the study of early Buddhism.
Archaeological findings connect the Piprahwa site to ancient Kapilavastu, believed to be where Gautam Buddha spent his early years. PM Modi expressed joy at the return of India’s heritage after 125 years, allowing Indians to witness and seek blessings from these sacred relics. He highlighted the historical significance of the venue, Qila Rai Pithora, as a testament to India’s rich past.
The Prime Minister reflected on the journey of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha, underscoring their symbolic value to India’s heritage. He noted that the relics were taken abroad during colonial rule and remained away from India for over a century. PM Modi thanked the Godrej Group for their collaboration in bringing back the relics to India, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
PM Modi shared the impact of the sacred relics’ global journey, citing instances of reverence and devotion in countries like Thailand, Mongolia, Russia, and Vietnam. He emphasized the unifying presence of Lord Buddha, stating that the teachings of Buddha transcend boundaries and unite people worldwide. The Prime Minister expressed his personal connection to Buddhism, highlighting his ties to Buddhist pilgrimage sites and his deep respect for Lord Buddha.
The recent repatriation of the relics was achieved through government efforts, institutional partnerships, and public-private collaborations. The exhibition, organized thematically, showcases authentic relics alongside reconstructed models inspired by Buddhist art and teachings. Various sections of the exposition aim to deepen public engagement and understanding through immersive audio-visual experiences and interpretive presentations.
