Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated three redeveloped Amrit Stations in Assam and West Bengal under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). The stations include Majbat in Rangiya Division (Assam), Jalpaiguri Road in Alipurduar Division (West Bengal), and Haldibari in Katihar Division (West Bengal), showcasing the government’s efforts to modernize railway infrastructure.

These stations are part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), with a total cost of around Rs 71 crore for their redevelopment. Additionally, PM Modi also flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered train, known as the “NaMo Green Rail,” between Jind and Sonipat, promoting clean and sustainable transportation.

The inaugural events at the redeveloped stations were attended by various dignitaries including Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, and Lok Sabha member Jayanta Kumar Roy. The redevelopment aims to enhance passenger convenience, promote socio-economic development in the regions, and boost regional connectivity, tourism, and trade.

Equipped with modern amenities and facilities, including those catering to Divyangjan, the redeveloped stations offer a safer and more comfortable travel experience. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), operating in the Northeastern states, seven districts of West Bengal, and five districts of north Bihar, plays a crucial role in enhancing transportation infrastructure in the region.
