Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the third semiconductor plant in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a significant step towards India’s goal of becoming a global semiconductor hub. The plant, CG Semi OSAT facility, has started commercial production of semiconductor packaging and aims to produce 20 crore chips annually initially. PM Modi announced plans to scale up production to 500 crore chips per year, expressing confidence in the workforce and the facility’s potential.
The Prime Minister praised the rapid progress in India’s semiconductor ecosystem, attributing the achievement to the hard work of young individuals, industry partners, and the Gujarat government. He emphasized the importance of the semiconductor sector in India’s development and outlined future plans for the cluster, including the establishment of new testing labs and supporting industries. PM Modi highlighted the diverse workforce at the facility, representing a mini-India with workers from various backgrounds contributing with high technical competence.
PM Modi underscored the growth of India’s mobile phone manufacturing sector, which has seen significant expansion in recent years. He commended the efforts of young women from different states who have received advanced training and are now producing semiconductor chips in Gujarat. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to developing the entire value chain of semiconductors and electronics within the country, emphasizing the vision of a self-reliant and developed India for future generations.
