Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s healthcare sector, highlighting the country’s efforts to offer affordable and accessible healthcare services through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat. PM Modi, commemorating #12YearsOfSwasthBharat, stated that India has focused on enhancing healthcare affordability and accessibility over the past 12 years. He expressed pride in India being recognized for Ayushman Bharat, the world’s largest healthcare program providing high-quality services to the most vulnerable populations.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the Central government’s additional healthcare schemes, such as PM Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, which have made medications more cost-effective. Notably, the affordability of stents and knee implants has benefited numerous individuals. Moreover, PM Modi highlighted the increased accessibility of medical education through the expansion of institutions and available seats.
Emphasizing the continuous efforts towards a healthier India, PM Modi pledged to build upon the progress achieved so far. Ayushman Bharat, launched by the Union government in 2018, has played a pivotal role in transforming healthcare access across the nation.
At a public event in Daman, Prime Minister Modi underscored the significant impact of the Ayushman Bharat program, extending health insurance coverage to over 60% of families and alleviating financial burdens on the underprivileged and middle-class households. He reiterated the government’s commitment to uplifting the marginalized sections of society through impactful developmental initiatives.
PM Modi highlighted the Ayushman Bharat scheme’s provision of health coverage of up to Rs five lakh for eligible beneficiaries. He noted that even the poorest citizens now have access to an Ayushman Card, ensuring free treatment up to Rs five lakh. Additionally, the Union government has supplemented the scheme with Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and digital health projects.
According to the Prime Minister, the Ayushman Cards and Jan Aushadhi Kendras have collectively saved poor and middle-class families nearly Rs 2.25 lakh crore in medical expenses.
