Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn in Melbourne to discuss bilateral relations. PM Modi expressed contentment with the outcomes of the third Australia-India Annual Summit, which he attended with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
During the meeting, PM Modi and Governor-General Mostyn exchanged thoughts on the enduring ties between India and Australia, based on shared democratic values and strong people-to-people connections. They also discussed the expanding cooperation across various sectors, highlighting the close and diverse partnership between the two countries.
PM Modi, who is currently on a three-day visit to Australia at the invitation of PM Albanese, participated in the third Australia India Annual Summit earlier in the day. The summit focused on reviewing progress in bilateral cooperation encompassing trade, investment, critical minerals, clean energy, technology, defense, security, education, skills, and more.
Following the Annual Summit, PM Modi and PM Albanese adopted the India-Australia Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation, aiming to enhance bilateral collaboration in defense, maritime awareness, counter-terrorism, critical minerals, and regional security. The leaders finalized several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in areas such as defense, maritime security, energy, critical technology, education, and skilling.
PMs Modi and Albanese also engaged in the India-Australia CEO Forum in Melbourne, addressing prominent business leaders from both countries.
