Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Sweden to discuss the strong potential of India-Europe ties, particularly following the signing of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. Both leaders expressed commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and finalizing the trade pact by year-end.
During the European Round Table for Industry, von der Leyen hailed the proposed India-EU trade deal as the “mother of all deals,” emphasizing the significance of this agreement for both parties. PM Modi echoed her sentiments, highlighting the importance of cooperation between democracies like India and Sweden, especially in combating terrorism and fostering economic growth.
PM Modi also emphasized the growing defense cooperation between India and Sweden, noting the increasing collaboration in building production facilities and advancing industrial partnerships. He further discussed the potential in high-tech sectors such as AI, health tech, and green mobility, underscoring the opportunities for innovation and sustainable development in both countries.
The visit to Sweden marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen partnerships in Europe, focusing on trade, defense, clean energy, and emerging technologies. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson highlighted the commitment to doubling bilateral trade and investments within five years, supporting India’s vision for development until 2047.
