Kalyanpur, aged 89, passed away at her Mumbai residence due to age-related health issues, with her final rites scheduled for June 1 in Mumbai.
PM Modi, in a tribute post, lauded Kalyanpur’s musical legacy, highlighting her unique place in the hearts of music enthusiasts and Indian cinema fans. Born as Suman Hemmadi on January 28, 1937, Kalyanpur enjoyed a successful career spanning over seven decades, often being compared to stalwarts like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle for her exceptional voice.
Known for hits like ‘Na Tum Hamein Jano’ and ‘Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyaar Ke Charche,’ Suman Kalyanpur recorded numerous acclaimed songs in languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Gujarati. Her talent was recognized with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2023 for her significant contributions to Indian music.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also expressed deep sorrow at Kalyanpur’s passing, acknowledging her as a legendary figure in Indian playback singing. Gadkari praised her vast repertoire of songs in languages like Marathi and Hindi, emphasizing her lasting impact on the music industry.
