Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Harivansh Narayan Singh, a veteran journalist turned politician, for his invaluable contributions to journalism and public life. Singh was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu. Modi expressed his delight at Singh’s nomination, highlighting his deep insights and enriching perspectives that have positively influenced the House proceedings.

Harivansh Narayan Singh, a former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, transitions from journalism to active politics with a wealth of experience. His renomination is widely perceived as a recognition of his parliamentary expertise and the balanced viewpoints he brings from his journalism background.

Following the conclusion of his previous Rajya Sabha term on April 9, speculation arose regarding Singh’s future role. The President’s nomination of Singh has put these speculations to rest, signaling a commitment to continuity, stability, and the reliance on seasoned leadership in parliamentary affairs.

This upcoming term will mark Harivansh’s third tenure in the Upper House, having first entered the Rajya Sabha from Bihar in 2014. Known for his composed demeanor and fair approach in conducting House proceedings, he garnered praise for his ability to navigate political standstills effectively.

Harivansh Narayan Singh’s journalism career, particularly with a regional publication, emphasized grassroots issues, rural India, and social matters, establishing him as a credible and impartial voice. His journalistic background significantly influences his political style, evident in his efforts as Deputy Chairman to facilitate constructive dialogues between opposing factions, a rare trait in contemporary politics.
