Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Indian Air Force for its display of “Bhakti and Shakti” during an air show at the Somnath Temple. The event, part of the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’ celebrations, featured the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team performing a spectacular flypast over the temple. The display, which showcased precision maneuvers using Hawk Mk-132 aircraft, was a blend of pride and valor.
The aerial exhibition, held in conjunction with religious ceremonies at the temple, mesmerized spectators with synchronized formations and aerobatic patterns over the temple town and the Arabian Sea coastline. The Prime Minister, after participating in various rituals at the temple, witnessed the six Hawk Mk-132 aircraft in action during the air demonstration. The jets, flying in close formations, left the crowds awestruck with their precision flying displays.
One of the highlights of the show was the use of indigenous colored smoke pods developed at the Indian Air Force’s Base Repair Depot in Nashik. The aircraft released saffron, white, and green smoke trails, resembling the colors of the Indian Tricolor, adding a patriotic touch to the performance. Additionally, an Indian Air Force Chetak helicopter showered flower petals over the temple premises, enhancing the ceremonial atmosphere.
Wing Commander Janmeet Sharma highlighted the expertise displayed by the pilots during the 15-minute aerobatic display, showcasing their skill in flying fighter aircraft at extremely close distances. The Surya Kiran team, known for its precision aerobatics, has conducted over 800 air displays both in India and abroad since its establishment in 1996. The event, marking 75 years since the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple, was attended by dignitaries including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and temple trustees.
