Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, highlighted the significance of India’s diverse mango varieties and commended the farmers involved in mango cultivation for their role in boosting the country’s economy and global presence. With the onset of summer, mangoes become a popular topic of discussion in households nationwide.
PM Modi emphasized that each region of India is known for its unique mango variety, such as Maharashtra’s Alphonso, Gujarat’s Kesar, and Uttar Pradesh’s Dussehri. He also mentioned distinctive varieties from southern India like Banganapalli, Totapuri, Neelam, and Malgova, along with Bengal’s Himsagar and Odisha’s Suvarnarekha.
The Prime Minister shared interesting facts about different mango varieties, such as the Langra mango’s unique quality of remaining green even when ripe and Bihar’s Zardalu, known for its recognizable aroma. He acknowledged the farmers’ efforts in mango cultivation, praising their contribution to the agricultural sector and expressing gratitude for their hard work.
PM Modi noted the expanding reach of Indian mangoes, stating that they are now not only popular in local markets but also gaining popularity in global markets. He recognized the farmers as crucial contributors to the agricultural economy and wished them continued success in their endeavors.
