Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for donning traditional Indian clothing, hailing it as a gesture of respect towards India’s cultural heritage. Netanyahu’s choice of attire, a light grey Nehru jacket, during a dinner engagement with PM Modi, symbolized a warm moment in their ongoing visit. The two leaders exchanged pleasantries, posed for photographs, and are set to visit Yad Vashem together before engaging in bilateral discussions at the King David Hotel.
Netanyahu, in a social media post in Hindi, shared the surprise of wearing Indian attire to welcome Prime Minister Modi. The visit is expected to include a comprehensive review of the India-Israel Strategic Partnership, focusing on defense, science, technology, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. Both leaders will discuss regional and global developments and sign several MoUs to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
India is in talks with Israel to acquire Iron Dome technology as part of the strategic partnership, aiming to integrate it into India’s indigenous defense system. The collaboration also includes Israel’s Iron Beam laser-based system to counter aerial threats effectively. The visit will culminate in joint statements to the media outlining the outcomes of their discussions and a meeting between PM Modi and Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
