Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended a group of young individuals in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh, for their efforts in rejuvenating the polluted Manorama River. These youngsters, led by Akash Gupta, transformed a section of the river by actively removing plastic and garbage, sparking community environmental initiatives. Their dedication and hard work resulted in a cleaner and fresher appearance of the river, fostering awareness about cleanliness in the region.
During the 134th episode of his monthly radio show, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ PM Modi shared the inspiring story of Akash Gupta and his friends’ initiative. Gupta, moved by the deteriorating state of the river, chose action over complaints, symbolizing a new beginning with the motto ‘No complaints, a fresh start.’ Equipped with basic tools like nets, spades, and baskets, these young volunteers tirelessly cleared water hyacinth and waste from the river, sometimes removing up to 50-60 kilograms of garbage in a single day.
In addition to the success in Basti, PM Modi highlighted another uplifting tale from Goa, featuring Balkrishna Aiya, a retired teacher who played a crucial role in solving the water crisis in the Maddi-Tolap area. Aiya’s efforts in laying pipelines brought much-needed relief to households facing water scarcity, showcasing the power of individual commitment to community welfare.
