Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic fire at a coaching center in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He offered condolences to the affected families and announced financial aid for the victims. Rescue operations are ongoing, with an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is also the MP for Lucknow, extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased. He described the incident as heart-wrenching and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conveyed his deep condolences to the bereaved families and cut short his visit to return to Lucknow.
At least 14 people, aged between 20 and 24, lost their lives in the fire that engulfed a three-story building in the Aliganj area of Lucknow. The blaze started in a coaching center located in the building, causing panic among students and others present. Eyewitnesses reported that some individuals jumped from upper floors and the terrace to escape, sustaining severe injuries.
Rescue teams, including fire brigade, police, and administrative personnel, are working to reach those trapped inside. Efforts are being made to evacuate individuals through the rooftop of a nearby building. Several injured persons have been hospitalized, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
