Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak in the Rajya Sabha to discuss various aspects of the ongoing conflict in West Asia and India’s strategic approach. This comes following US President Donald Trump’s decision to extend negotiations with Iran instead of pursuing military action. Earlier, PM Modi addressed the Lok Sabha, emphasizing the challenges posed by the conflict, particularly on Indians in Gulf nations and the economic repercussions for India.
PM Modi highlighted the multifaceted impact of the conflict, stating that it has brought about economic, national security, and humanitarian challenges for India. He underscored the significant trade ties India holds with the warring nations and the region’s role in fulfilling India’s energy needs. Additionally, PM Modi pointed out that West Asia is home to around one crore Indian expatriates, emphasizing the region’s importance to India.
Addressing the trade implications of the conflict, PM Modi noted the critical role of the region in India’s trade network, especially in meeting the country’s oil and gas requirements. He also reassured about the safety and welfare of Indians in Gulf countries, mentioning the government’s efforts in providing necessary assistance to those affected by the conflict. PM Modi highlighted the repatriation of over 3,75,000 Indians from West Asia, including a significant number from Iran, and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting those in need.
In response to the crisis, PM Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to assess the situation and discuss ongoing and proposed measures to address the West Asia conflict.
