Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to distribute incentives totaling around Rs 2,400 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) at a special event at Vigyan Bhawan on Friday. The scheme, since its inception, has led to the creation of approximately 15 lakh job opportunities nationwide, as confirmed by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The PM-VBRY scheme aims to encourage both employees and employers to engage in the formal economy. First-time employees stand to gain incentives of up to Rs 15,000 to support their entry into the workforce. Additionally, employers who create more jobs can receive incentives of up to Rs 3,000 per month per additional employee, promoting continuous job generation.
Recognizing the pivotal role of manufacturing in economic growth, the scheme offers incentives to employers in the manufacturing sector for four years, while those in other sectors are eligible for incentives for two years. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to employment-driven growth and ensuring that economic progress translates into quality formal job opportunities, especially for the youth.
With an overall budget of Rs 99,446 crore, the PM-VBRY scheme was launched in August 2025 with the aim of creating over 3.5 crore jobs within a two-year period. The government estimates that out of the total targeted beneficiaries, approximately 1.92 crore individuals will be new entrants to the workforce.
The scheme is anticipated to have a significant impact on expanding formal employment, enhancing social security coverage, and furthering the vision of a developed India by providing support to both workers and employers. PM-VBRY, which commenced on August 1 last year, is designed to stimulate the creation of more than 3.5 crore jobs over a two-year span, including nearly 1.92 crore first-time workforce entrants.
