Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch India’s first Hydrogen train during his visit to Haryana and Punjab. Additionally, he will virtually inaugurate 75 redeveloped Amrit Bharat railway stations nationwide. The inauguration ceremony at the revamped Jaisalmer railway station is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., an hour before the virtual inauguration of the 75 stations.
Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be the chief guest at the event at Jaisalmer Railway Station. Joining him will be Jaisalmer MLA Chhotu Singh Bhati, BJP District President Dalpatram Hingra, BJP City President Arun Purohit, and other public representatives and railway officials.
Senior Divisional Commerce Manager Hitesh Yadav mentioned that the Jaisalmer Railway Station’s redevelopment cost nearly Rs 140 crore. The station now boasts modern passenger amenities, including an air-conditioned waiting hall, a dormitory with 16 beds and seven rooms, end-to-end shelters on all three platforms, and improved passenger facilities.
The station has also completed a pit line, facilitating train maintenance operations. Outsourced parking and waiting room services have been arranged, eliminating previous passenger inconveniences. The modernization of Jaisalmer Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is expected to enhance tourism, local trade, employment, and regional economic activities.
The inauguration of 75 Amrit Stations across 20 states is a significant milestone under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, one of the world’s largest station redevelopment programs. These stations, redeveloped at a cost of about Rs 1,570 crore, now offer modern, passenger-friendly facilities. Redeveloped stations under the theme of ‘Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi’ incorporate elements reflecting local culture, heritage, and architecture.
