Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Australia’s leader of the Opposition, Angus Taylor, and visit the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced that during the visit to the MCG, Australian PM Anthony Albanese will join PM Modi to unveil a roadmap for sports collaboration between the two countries.
Misri highlighted the significance of the visit, emphasizing the growing cooperation in the sports sector between India and Australia. He mentioned the upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2030 to be hosted by India and the Olympic Games in 2032 to be hosted by Australia as key opportunities for collaboration in the sports domain.
PM Modi’s three-day visit to Australia has been marked by various engagements, including talks with PM Albanese, Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn, and Victoria Governor Margaret Gardner AC. The visit also included participation in the Australia-India CEO Forum, an Indian community reception in Melbourne, and meetings with former Australian PM Scott Morrison.
Describing the visit as “productive and fruitful,” Misri noted the substantial outcomes and reinforced shared objectives achieved during the visit. The leaders participated in the third Australia-India Annual Summit, where they reviewed progress across various areas of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
