Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Barak Valley on March 14 to unveil key initiatives enhancing connectivity and infrastructure. During the Vibrant Village Programme in Natanpur, Cachar district, Sarma revealed that the Prime Minister will inaugurate Assam’s first express highway linking Guwahati with Panchgram, a project estimated at Rs 22,000 crore. This expressway is expected to slash travel time between Guwahati and the Barak Valley to approximately four and a half hours, significantly enhancing regional connectivity and economic ties.
Sarma highlighted that the people of Barak Valley will benefit from the express highway without needing to request it, emphasizing the government’s dedication to Assam’s progress. Additionally, he mentioned the imminent completion of the long-pending East-West Corridor project within the next month. The Chief Minister also emphasized the government’s efforts in reclaiming over 1.5 lakh bighas of land from encroachers, setting a target to clear five lakh bighas in the upcoming term to safeguard Assam’s land and heritage.
Sarma underscored the threat posed by illegal encroachments to Assam’s demographic balance and economic security over the years. He reassured that the government’s actions against encroachment strictly adhere to the law, ensuring the return of land to its rightful owners and public use.
