Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Seychelles on a State visit commencing Saturday to participate in the Golden Jubilee festivities of the country’s National Day as the Guest of Honour. He has been invited by Seychelles President Patrick Herminie. The visit will include discussions between PM Modi and President Herminie to assess bilateral cooperation and share perspectives on regional and global matters of common interest, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
PM Modi’s itinerary in Seychelles involves addressing the Seychelles National Assembly and engaging with the Indian diaspora. The MEA emphasized the enduring partnership between India and Seychelles, underlining the significance of Seychelles in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and commitment to the Global South. The visit aims to strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two nations and enhance bilateral ties across various sectors.
In previous interactions, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Seychelles Foreign Minister Barry Faure during the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius, affirming India’s support for Seychelles in addressing economic challenges. The visit reciprocates President Herminie’s State visit to India in February, where discussions encompassed various aspects of bilateral relations, including collaboration in digital transformation.
The joint vision ‘SESEL’ adopted by India and Seychelles underscores India’s dedication to supporting Seychelles in its national development agenda, focusing on sustainability, defence, maritime security, capacity building, and inclusive growth. India’s High Commissioner to Seychelles, Rohit Rathish, highlighted the dynamic and excellent ties between the two countries, with plans to expand cooperation into emerging domains such as Artificial Intelligence, cyberspace, cybersecurity, marine science, and the blue economy.
