Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday wishes to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, hoping for his long and healthy life. Vijay, born on June 22, 1974, in Madras (now Chennai), is a former actor who transitioned into politics and currently holds the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Known for his successful career in Tamil cinema, Vijay is fondly referred to as ‘Thalapathy (Leader)’ by his fans.
Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, son of film-maker S.A. Chandrasekhar and singer Shoba Chandrasekhar, started his acting journey as a child artist in his father’s film ‘Vetri’ (1984) and later rose to stardom in the Tamil film industry. With notable films like ‘Kushi’, ‘Thirumalai’, ‘Ghilli’, ‘Pokkiri’, and ‘Sarkar’, Vijay has carved a prominent place for himself in South Indian cinema. Initially recognized for his romantic roles, he later became known for his portrayal of characters fighting for social and political causes.
Vijay’s popularity and success in cinema often led to speculations about his political aspirations, which he officially embraced in 2024 by launching the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, TVK emerged as the largest party in the state, securing 108 out of 234 seats. Forming alliances with other parties, Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, after winning from Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East constituencies.
