Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on ensuring the safety of seafarers and the freedom of navigation in international waterways continues to receive praise from various political circles. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor commended PM Modi for conveying the message effectively during the G7 Summit meetings in France. Tharoor highlighted the importance of not targeting commercial shipping during conflicts, emphasizing that these ships carry civilian crews.
Tharoor also mentioned the need for caution during wartime, pointing out that ship owners share responsibility for putting their crews at risk. Discussing the US-Iran peace deal, he stressed the importance of both sides feeling like winners for a lasting peace. Tharoor cited examples of successful peace agreements where concessions were made by both parties to ensure mutual satisfaction and prevent feelings of humiliation.
At the G7 Summit in Evian, PM Modi reiterated the significance of seafarers’ safety and security, expressing India’s desire for peace and stability in West Asia post the US-Iran agreement. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted PM Modi’s focus on the safety of Indian seafarers who contribute significantly to global maritime trade, emphasizing that their well-being is a shared global concern.
