Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi has highlighted the “Vikramaditya Vedic Clock,” garnering a digital reach of over 7.8 million people. PM Modi, after offering prayers, praised the clock as a fusion of ancient wisdom and modern science, sparking significant online engagement. The clock, developed by the Maharaja Vikramaditya Research Institute, follows a unique 30-hour cycle based on sunrise and showcases various traditional elements like Tithi and Nakshatra.
The Vedic Clock, installed at the temple complex on April 4, 2026, was presented by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Officials view this initiative as a way to revive interest in India’s traditional timekeeping methods among the modern generation. The project aims to bridge traditional astronomical knowledge with contemporary technology, offering a comprehensive understanding of the Indian calendar system.
The digital extension of the Vedic Clock includes a mobile application supporting over 189 languages, providing users with sunrise and sunset timings, auspicious periods, and a Panchang spanning 7,000 years. The app, available on both Google Play Store and App Store, integrates an alarm feature based on the Vedic time system. Plans are underway to replicate this initiative at major religious sites nationwide, aiming to share India’s scientific heritage globally.
