The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana has seen significant success in Nalanda, Bihar, with nearly a thousand individuals transitioning to solar power for their daily energy needs. Nalanda ranks second in the state for participation in the program and the adoption of solar electricity. To promote solar energy further, the district administration honored 60 consumers with the Solar Energy Pioneer Award for their proactive role in encouraging others to make the switch.
At a ceremony held at the Town Hall, District Magistrate Kundan Kumar recognized these proactive citizens and five outstanding vendors/contractors. Beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme expressed joy over reduced electricity bills, some even mentioning their bills becoming zero after installing solar panels, leading to a stress-free experience.
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar highlighted that Nalanda district stands out in Bihar for embracing the PM Surya Ghar scheme, with over 900 people already adopting solar energy. Executive Engineer Vikas Kumar mentioned a subsidy of Rs 78,000 for connections up to 3 kilowatts under the scheme, with plans to credit surplus electricity money to consumers’ accounts starting the next financial year.
Superintending Engineer Manish Kant disclosed the goal of installing solar systems in 2000 more homes in the district by the fiscal year’s end. Various campaigns will be organized across different parts of the district to achieve this target. Notable individuals, including Sandeep Kumar, Anita Devi, Anil Kumar, Mohd. Amiyaj Jafri, Soni Kumari, and Shambhulal Vishwakarma, were honored during the event.
Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Modi government for the reduced electricity bills they are experiencing under the scheme. Sushila Kumari shared how her family has become self-reliant, while Rishabh Kumar noted a significant decrease in power cuts. Surendra Kumar highlighted the transformation from monthly bills of Rs 1500-1800 to zero bills, bringing relief to his family.
