The PM Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, aimed at supporting micro food units for self-sustainability through Central monetary aid, is showing significant success. In Sheikhpura district, Bihar, the PMFME has played a crucial role in creating local jobs, with budding entrepreneurs embracing self-reliance. Shashi Kumar, a sweet shop owner, shared his success story, crediting the scheme for enabling him to offer employment opportunities.
After learning about the PMFME initiative, Shashi Kumar approached the Industries Department for details and applied for assistance. With the received funds, he invested in a gram flour laddu-making machine and kickstarted his business from home. Despite initial challenges, his perseverance has paid off, establishing his reputation in the local and neighboring areas.
The demand for Shashi Kumar’s gram flour laddus has surged, leading to orders from various districts like Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Nawada, and Nalanda. Festivals and weddings witness a high influx of orders, with local vendors becoming regular clients. Shashi Kumar, who benefited from the PMFME scheme, has expanded his sweet shop, providing employment opportunities for both men and women.
Encouraging youth to explore self-employment under this scheme, Shashi Kumar’s brother, Ashish Kumar, highlighted the initial financial challenges in setting up the unit, necessitating a bank loan. The Industries Department’s support in facilitating the loan process ensured a smooth approval, emphasizing the scheme’s assistance in promoting entrepreneurship. Sujaat, the General Manager of the District Industries Department, mentioned the department’s role in securing a bank loan for Shashi Kumar’s unit, where a majority of the workforce comprises women, with additional hiring during peak demand periods.
Such initiatives not only boost local employment but also entice migrants to return, thereby reducing migration and enhancing local economic prospects.
