The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), initiated in 2020, has significantly fostered entrepreneurship in Bihar’s Sheikhpura district. One such success story is Vinod Kumar, a farmer from Kasibigha village, who transitioned from traditional farming to organic cultivation with the support of the scheme.
Vinod and his wife, Mona Kumari, received financial aid and training under the PMFME scheme, enabling them to cultivate turmeric, chili, and coriander organically. By directly selling their produce and utilizing modern machinery for processing and marketing, they have found success in the market, with a focus on organic and chemical-free products.
Their entrepreneurial journey has not only improved their livelihood but has also inspired other farmers in the village to explore food processing alongside traditional farming practices. The scheme, praised by Sujaat, a general manager of the Industries Department, is instrumental in economically empowering micro-food processing entrepreneurs in the region.
Vinod and Mona’s story highlights the positive impact of the PMFME scheme in promoting self-reliance and prosperity among small farmers, showcasing the transformative potential of government support in fostering sustainable agricultural practices.
