PMK President Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has urged for a thorough investigation into the reported theft of hard disks containing critical information from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) headquarters. The missing hard disks, said to include official records, have raised concerns about potential cover-ups of past corruption issues. Anbumani expressed shock over the incident, emphasizing the significance of safeguarding such sensitive data.
Reports suggest that around 18 hard disks were stolen from computers at the TNEB headquarters, although the official complaint only mentions eight missing hard disks. Anbumani has questioned this discrepancy, hinting that the actual number of missing hard disks could be higher than disclosed. He alleged that the stolen devices likely hold data related to coal procurement, contracts, administrative decisions, and records linked to suspected irregularities in the electricity sector.
The PMK leader highlighted suspicions that the theft might be part of a larger scheme to erase evidence of corruption within the power utility. Anbumani also raised concerns about the security measures at the TNEB headquarters, noting the controlled access to the premises and suggesting a possible insider involvement in the theft. He further pointed out allegations of non-functional surveillance cameras at the facility for over five years, calling for immediate scrutiny into this lapse.
Describing the power sector as highly susceptible to corruption in the state, Anbumani urged the Tamil Nadu government to launch a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible for the theft. He stressed the importance of determining whether the disappearance of the hard disks aimed to conceal any wrongdoing and demanded answers regarding the prolonged inactivity of surveillance systems at the headquarters.
