Police in West Bengal have continued their crackdown on Trinamool Congress leaders facing corruption allegations, leading to several arrests. In one case, former Dinhata Municipality chairman Gouri Shankar Maheshwari was arrested for involvement in a building plan approval fraud scheme. Another incident involved the arrest of Durgapur Faridpur Block’s Trinamool president, Shatdeep Ghatak, on charges of extortion and terrorism, accused of threatening BJP workers and local residents.
Trinamool worker Raju Ahowalia was also arrested in Asansol on multiple charges, including extortion. Additionally, Kumaresh Bhuiyan, the working director of Daspur 1 Panchayat Samiti and son of former Daspur MLA Mamata Bhuiyan, was arrested for alleged extortion and hooliganism. The police actions come after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s directive to crack down on corruption allegations against Trinamool leaders from the previous government’s tenure, resulting in a series of arrests across districts.
