Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district took action to eradicate illegal poppy cultivation as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan’. Acting on reliable information, the police discovered illicit poppy plants being grown in a specific village. Following legal procedures, the authorities destroyed the illegal plants in the presence of relevant officials.
The police registered a case under the NDPS Act and collected samples of the seized plants for further legal action. Emphasizing their commitment to fighting drug-related issues, Baramulla Police urged the public to assist in combating drug trafficking and illegal cultivation. This operation was part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, a 100-day anti-drug campaign in the region.
The campaign aims to protect future generations from drug addiction and has been labeled as a battle against narco-terrorism by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Punitive measures against drug offenders include the cancellation of documents like passports and Aadhaar cards, as well as property attachment. LG Sinha has been actively leading anti-drug efforts across the Union Territory to address the issue of drug abuse among the youth.
