The Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district detained a terror overground worker (OGW) at the Nunwan base camp of Amarnath Yatra through a facial recognition system (FRS). Identified as Mohd. Iqbal Wani, son of Ali Mohd Wani from Hajin in Bandipora, the individual was swiftly intercepted and verified by police personnel following the FRS alert, confirming his status as an OGW. He has been held for further legal procedures and investigation.
The successful apprehension underscores the efficacy of advanced technology within the security setup by Anantnag Police for the safe conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. The FRS deployment aids real-time surveillance, bolsters access control, and facilitates rapid responses to potential security risks. Anantnag Police’s commitment to utilizing modern technology ensures a secure and peaceful pilgrimage environment.
The ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra-2026 has seen over two lakh Yatris in the past eight days, with a fresh batch of 6,482 pilgrims departing Jammu for the Kashmir Valley. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised the pilgrimage’s progress, crossing the two-lakh pilgrim mark in just eight days. The smooth operation of the Yatra on both routes is expected to attract more devotees in the upcoming weeks, fostering a spiritual celebration.
